Focusing on the degradation of memory, I work with both photography and film to explore the relationship between memory and the passage of time.
Through the use of my own personal family footage I present a breakdown in clarity, using the medium of video itself to distort the footage until all that’s left is a shell of an experience. The breakdown of the image on screen is a result of layers upon layers of video and something that once presented a coherent memory transforms into something indistinguishable.
With influences from artists such as Tony Oursler & Chris Marker I question the use of photography and video as a constructive way to remember and ask whether the original memory remains or whether it has been distorted and manipulated by technology.
