Are we ‘Rushing to paradise’? Or is the process of aiming for something perfect in life simply corroding our plans?
Focusing on the deterioration of something pure, my work uses unusual materials to express myself in an autobiographical manner. Through experience, the pining for something untainted, human reproduction and memory, my work creates what is an emotional process, which becomes almost as important as the outcome. With influence from Bobby Baker and Louise Bourgeois, I transform what starts out as something pure into embodied sculpture, leaving both the process and time to either revolutionize them or encourage them to deteriorate.
Wanting the viewer to understand the vast scale in an autobiographical sense, the tactile components of my work becomes particularly compelling. Speculating whether the audience feel the need to engage with my work is representative to me of how close, or how far away we as humans are from each others lives.
