Ignorance is a destructive characteristic that we as people share; my work intends to bring awareness to the subject and disrupt the system of beliefs we are all subconsciously brought up with. Decay, death, mould and aging have all been subjects that have been addressed within my work. Each of these subjects has negative attachments and associations within society. I aim to reconfigure the way we think about them by creating paintings that portray them positively.
My paintings explore the realms of paint and colour, as well as combining textural aspects through the layering of paint. Choice of colour, mark making and allowing the colours to bleed into one another are aspects that contribute to the emotion within my paintings. Breaking down the idea of these negative attachments reveal a more honest interpretation of them, which can lead to the acceptance and understanding that what happens in life is inevitable.
